A very warm welcome to St John Bosco Primary School and Nursery Class.
Thank you for visiting our website – I hope it provides you with an overview of school and nursery life.
St John Bosco Primary School originated in 1972 as the first Roman Catholic primary school in Erskine. The current building is 45 years old. Shaw Nursery was integrated into the primary school in 2010; this is now known as St John Bosco Nursery Class. Our school and nursery class serves North Erskine, Bishopton and Langbank.
As we approach our final academic year in the current building, I am very conscious of the great traditions which have earned our very good reputation in the local community and beyond. Looking to the future, the relocation of our school and nursery class to a state-of-the-art new shared campus in August 2018 is an exciting prospect for our whole community.
As a Roman Catholic school, we aim to serve our community by providing high quality education in an environment where Jesus Christ is at the centre; where each person is respected and where individual talents are nurtured; where being a good citizen is an essential part of daily life.
We offer a broad, stimulating and relevant curriculum at St John Bosco which is regularly refreshed in line with current local and national initiatives, as well as the Scottish Government’s Curriculum for Excellence. A strong focus on literacy and numeracy at all stages ensures that we are producing children who are ready for the challenges of secondary education and in time, for life in the 21st Century.
We want our children to be well-rounded citizens; children who know how to behave and flourish in an ever-changing society. Visitors to our school regularly comment on our children’s confidence in speaking and presenting, as well as their commitment to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and to Eco Work and Sustainability in the global field.
Staff work hard to meet each child’s learning needs and we value our parents as partners in their child’s learning. Up-to-date resources and ICT are key features across our school. Teaching and learning methodologies are constantly evolving to take account of new curricular initiatives and educational research.
Our school is named after St John Bosco. St John Bosco was the founder of the Salesian Society, named in honour of St Francis de Sales and of the Daughters of Mary, Help of Christians. His life work was the welfare of young boys and girls, hence his title, “Apostle of Youth.” He was an enlightened educator and innovator. We aim to continue in St John Bosco’s footsteps with our devotion to religious life and commitment to the pursuit of excellence.
St John Bosco Primary School delivers a balanced educational experience for each child. Most importantly, it is a friendly and happy school where warmth and good humour is evidenced the minute you step through the door.
I look forward to meeting you.
